So I’ve been going through slides in the more ancient/prehistoric periods (Akkadian, Mitannian Period, Sumer, Catal Huyuk, Middle and New Kingdoms, etc.) and trying to find objects such as bowls, weapons, jewelry, metalwork to scan. Now I’m considering just staying in this early realm of documented human history.
The SUPER COOLSCAN 5000 and I are becoming great friends. He’s supercool.

by maria ~ December 13th, 2011After making my book template I’ve created the main format for the book pages in photoshop. I chose to make this amount of pages because I want to use a single sheet of paper to work from. If I print on 2 sides of paper then I’ll be able to create 24 pages, cut them down and sew them together. This will make the scanning process more efficient. Also, after thinking about sources for my images/content I think it would be really interesting to scan slides that depict some of the technologies over time. As one of the workers in the slide library I go through tons of slides and see really great images and the process of scanning would tie well with my notion of the changing generations.

I have established the size of my books and made a template. It will be 2″x 2.5″ and will have 24 pages inside. I’ve been thinking about the imagery to use inside and am interested in showing the evolution of technology, starting from prehistoric hunting tools like spears and having different objects and machines depicted. I don’t think I will have them on every single page, but I’m still figuring out the arrangement of what I’m putting inside my book.
